Docassemble is an advanced guided interview system developed by and for legal services. It is a free and open-source competitor with Neota Logic and HotDocs. Its features include: a mobile-friendly web interface with a configurable look-and-feel; a text messaging interface; live chat with screen sharing and remote control; image uploads; optical character recognition; machine learning for natural language processing (chat bots), predictive analytics, and document identification; document assembly using Word or PDF templates; touchscreen signature gathering; e-mail and text message reminders; user accounts with or without passwords; and multi-user interviews for mediation or legal advice applications. For interview authors, Docassemble offers an interview authoring "wizard" for beginners and a web-based authoring environment, integrated with Google Drive and GitHub, for testing and publishing interviews. At this session, the developer of Docassemble will provide an introduction to the software's capabilities and demonstrate how to get started writing interviews using the system. Advocates from other legal services programs will describe projects they have undertaken using Docassemble.
