In 2017, LSC, in partnership with Microsoft and probono Net, announced Alaska and Hawaii as the pilot jurisdictions for an innovative program to increase access to justice,. This initiative is piloting the creation of statewide justice portals to help ensure that all people with civil legal needs can navigate their options and more easily access solutions available from legal aid, the courts, the private bar, and community partners. This session will highlight recent developments in this effort, including key findings from initial user immersion studies in Alaska and Hawaii drawing on Microsoft’s Inclusive Design methodology, how this project intersects with each state's Justice for All initiative, and developments in the project's cutting-edge technology strategies. Attendees will also learn about the challenges and opportunities the project collaborators have identified in bringing this ambitious vision to life.
